I know.. I know….
Maria’s literacy is so important in the novel because when none of the child laborers could read, Maria could. By having the ability to read, Maria became the child laborers’ savior. Maria saved the child laborers by teaching them how to read and understand the weird symbols. Also, Maria’s literacy brought hope into the hearts of the child laborers. Reading has helped me with everything in my daily life, like reading a math equation on a worksheet or reading an article on a newspaper. Reading is a great way to get a message across to somebody. Literacy allows anyone to have a voice in the world because it’s an effective way to express what you want to say and how you feel. Having a voice in the world opens up new opportunities for everyone and creates equality.
